Freedom of the road is the first thing young adults think of when they get their first car. When they get the first car they don’t seem to think of a few check lists that they need to go through. Like if its road worthy or if they can afford the gasoline to fill it. Essentially the car needs to be fuel-efficient easy to fix and fast as they would need to beat their parents home after a night at a party.
The first contender for a first car is the famed Honda Civic it’s agile, fuel efficient, parts are often cheap and easy to get a hold of. You can often fit 5 people inside and usually you can find one equipped with a aftermarket sound system to scare soccer moms. 2001 and newer models hold a 4 star safety rating done by European New Car Assessment Programme. There are downsides to it as well, its generic everyone has one or knows someone who drives one. A number of the earlier models have rust issues that become very unsightly and finally it feels very plastic like inside the earlier models that you would be choosing from.
Honda Civic
Some would go with a brand new model off the line; the cheapest brand new car in Canada is the Nissan Micra starting at $9,988 CND (before taxes). As students cannot afford much for a brand new car this base of base models does come with a FM/AM/CD and an auxiliary input, for the base model since you are getting brand new you have a choice of three colours, red, black and white.
A newer car would be something parents look at due to them being safer than others. Euro NCAP gave the Micra a 91% for driver safety.
First car buyers though are not the biggest fan of the Micra Johnson Lam a first time car buyer, has saved enough for a Nissan Micra but would rather buy pre owned.

Lam has been looking on Kijiji and Autotrader to find some early luxury cars.
A more affordable luxury cars could be an Acura TL ones made in 2010 could be found with lower kilometres can be found in the $10,000-15,000 mark. The main thing is this is a Honda engine it is very reliable and with regular car care can go on forever. Acura’s are filled with Gadgets and many luxuries that are not limited to heated seats Bluetooth and GPS. The Acura is given a 4 star overall safety rating by NHTSA.

The main thing with any car that you choose for a first car is to have it safety inspected and get a Car Proof, just because the car you chosen is one of the best available it can all boil down to how well the car has been taken care of. Any car pre owned would have some sort of issue. Things to look at when looking at the car, check the oil make sure it’s decent; take it to a mechanic before purchase for an inspection and listen to them before purchasing.
